Anthurium Papillilaminum (jiffy)

A rare velvet-leaf anthurium admired for its dark, elongated heart-shaped leaves with prominent veins and a soft, velvety texture. It’s a collector’s plant and slightly more demanding than common anthuriums.

 Light

• Bright, indirect light

• No direct sun (will burn velvet leaves)

• Too little light → smaller leaves & slower growth

Ideal near a bright window with sheer curtain.

 Watering

• Keep soil slightly moist

• Let top 2–3 cm dry before watering

• Never let it sit in water

⚠️ Very sensitive to overwatering → root rot risk.

 Temperature & Humidity

• Ideal temperature: 20–30°C

• Prefers 70–85% humidity

• Avoid cold drafts

In Indian conditions, it does best with a humidifier or in a semi-greenhouse setup.

 Soil Mix (Very Important)

Use a chunky, airy aroid mix:

• Orchid bark

• Perlite

• Coco chips

• Sphagnum moss

• Small amount of compost or worm castings

Excellent drainage + airflow = healthy roots.

 Fertilizer

• Feed every 3–4 weeks during active growth

• Use diluted balanced fertilizer

• Flush soil occasionally to prevent salt buildup

 Growth Habit

• Slow to moderate grower

• Terrestrial (not a strong climber like philodendrons)

• Produces new leaves from a central growth point

 Common Problems

• Yellow leaves → Overwatering

• Brown leaf tips → Low humidity

• Faded veins → Needs more light

• Root rot → Poor drainage

 Flower

Produces small greenish spathe with a spadix, but foliage is the main attraction.
