Botanical name: Adiantum hispidulum (often sold as Peacock Maidenhair Fern)
A delicate, colorful maidenhair fern with bronze–pink new growth that matures to soft green. The “peacock” name comes from the layered, fan-shaped fronds with a subtle metallic sheen.

 Light

  • Bright indirect light

  • Can tolerate medium light

  • No direct sun (burns fronds quickly)

Perfect for a bright bathroom or near an east-facing window.

 Watering (Very Important!)

  • Keep soil consistently moist

  • Never let it dry out completely

  • Avoid waterlogging

⚠️ Even one full dry-out can cause major leaf drop.

 Temperature & Humidity

  • Ideal temperature: 18–28°C

  • Loves high humidity (70%+)

  • Protect from AC drafts and dry air

💡 In Indian homes, this fern does best with:

  • Humidifier

  • Pebble tray

  • Grouped with other plants

 Soil Mix

Use moisture-retentive but well-draining soil:

  • Cocopeat / peat

  • Perlite

  • Compost

  • A little leaf mold (if available)

Drainage holes are essential.

 Fertilizer

  • Feed lightly once a month

  • Use diluted balanced liquid fertilizer

  • Do not overfeed — maidenhair ferns are sensitive

 Common Problems

  • Crispy edges → Low humidity

  • Sudden leaf drop → Soil dried out

  • Yellowing → Overwatering

  • Pale growth → Needs slightly more light

 Maintenance

  • Trim dead fronds at the base

  • Rotate pot for even growth

  • Avoid touching fronds too often (very delicate)
