Spanish moss ( Tillandsia usneoides ) — that silvery, fairy-tale plant that drapes like hair from trees

 Basic Care

Light

• Bright indirect light is best

• Can handle morning sun or filtered sunlight

• Too much harsh sun → dries and turns brittle

Water

• Loves humidity

• Mist 3–5 times a week

• Or soak in water for 20–30 minutes once a week, then shake off excess

• In hot Indian summers → mist daily

Air

• Needs excellent airflow

• Never keep it wet in a closed or stuffy space

 Temperature

• Ideal: 18–32°C

• Can tolerate heat well

• Protect from cold drafts and temps below 10°C

 Feeding

• Optional but helpful

• Use air plant / bromeliad fertilizer

• Dilute heavily and spray once a month

Maintenance

• Trim dry or brown strands

• Grows slowly but steadily with good humidity

• Turns grey-silver when happy, brown when stressed

Display Ideas

• Hang on tree branches

• Drape over wooden sticks, ropes, or grills

• Looks stunning in balconies, patios, and near aquariums

Common Mistakes

• Keeping it constantly wet

• No airflow

• Using hard or chlorinated water (rainwater or RO water is best)
